Who are they?
Lyle and Ian lived most of their lives in the Carbon Area. They felt it was important to serve their community. They enjoyed working together and helping out with any task, whether it was big or small. They were involved in such things as the Carbon Lions Club, Carbon Hall Board, Carbon Fire Department, and the Carbon Ag. Society. They even demonstrated their acting talents in various community and school plays. Carbon is a better place to live because of the volunteer hours served by Lyle and Ian. Their community commitment and spirit were inspirational.
About the Scholarship
The Lyle Duncan and Ian Appleyard Scholarship was instituted during the 2003/2004 school year with the intent of honoring two valued Lions Club and community members, as well as acknowledging a student's community-mindedness and giving nature. This scholarship will award $1,000 annually to one Carbon School student who meets the scholarship's criteria. It celebrates the strong work ethic, spirit of giving, and commitment that Lyle Duncan and Ian Appleyard exhibited.
This scholarship also recognizes the important role youth play in our community and future. The Carbon Lions Club believes that you are the future leaders of our community and society. Supporting youth is a key initiative among the Lions; therefore, it is also designed to encourage students to pursue further education and thereby enhance the ability of these young people to make meaningful contributions to their communities in subsequent years.
